Book Review: Thistlemarsh by Moorea Corrigan

So the blurb on the front of this book says that it is 'completely and wonderfully enchanting' - and it really is! From the adorable cover art to the story itself and the occasional inserts from the books of fairytales the protagonist reads, this book is just delightful. Faeries, magic, wonder, a small English village and a rundown old mansion are the ingredients for this tale, and it's a perfect book to get cosy with a blanket and a warm drink of your choice. It reads like a familiar story you know and love, with what seem to be the usual tropes for a fantasy story with a dash of romance, but don't be fooled! What you think is the twist is not the twist! This book will still surprise you! Not to mention that the characters are enchanting and vivid, and the obvious love of fairytales on the author's part shines through in the writing.

That's not to say that there aren't moments of darkness, though - with the backdrop of World War 2 and the looming shadow of societal prejudice, it's not all flowers and fairydust. And of course, as everyone who knows a little about the Fae will know, dealing with faeries is never without great risk...

Simply put, if you like stories about faeries, you need to read this book.
