Book Review: The Dance of Lost Souls by Kelli Call

I'm primarily a horror reader, but throw a bit of spookiness into anything and I'll read it! 'The Dance of Lost Souls' does this by making one of their protagonists a ghost pirate (not a spoiler, also not entirely accurate but it got me hooked!). It's a sweeping paranormal romance about a soul collector (kind of like the grim reaper, but much more handsome) and the mortal woman he falls in love with, and how they fight to overcome their individual circumstances so they can be together. The romance is heartwrenching, the action is fast-paced and occasionally brutal, the villains are powerful and loathsome, and the writing flows so nicely, it was so easy to read. I really didn't want to put it down!

The story is set on a warm tropical island, and the narrative is peppered with wonderful descriptions that really bring the island to life. This was a joy to read at the start of a chilly English winter, but I can definitely imagine taking this book on holiday and reading it on the beach!

Honestly, this hit all my buttons! Pale long haired edgy guy, fiesty heroine who won't do as she's told, gorgeous setting, and supernatural spookiness! If you like all these things too, you should definitely give this one a read.
